In 2003 J-P Rudloff described a new Brachypelma species; Brachypelma schroederi. This species is named after Steffen Schröder. The type site of Brachypelma schroederi is listed as “close to Acapulco, Guerrero Mexico.”

Although the description paper lists Acapulco as type site for Brachypelma schroederi, this is not where the species is found. Brachypelma schroederi lives in the central valley in the state of Oaxaca in Mexico. The ecoregion here is called Southern Pacific dry forests.(www.worldwildlife.org) The annual 800mm of rain fall in the short rain season.
